CHARACTER
Character Name: Ryou Bakura
Character Age: 17
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh!
Canon Point: post series/pre Dark Side of Dimensions
World Description: N/A (Children's card game that people fight and murder over)
History: Here
Personality: On the surface, Ryou is a kind and sweet boy. He comes off as quiet, shy and polite at the best of times, always speaking in a very proper manner. With such a personality, he seems like a complete pushover and even some of his teachers would pick on him for his girly appearance and soft demeanor. But despite everything, Ryou is much stronger than he looks, both physically and mentally. He's simply learned to be a very good actor and hides his real emotions with little to no effort. Which of course leads to even his friends never being able to tell when it's actual him in control of his body or the evil spirit that lived inside his Millenium Ring.
He tends to become lonely very easily, his mother and younger sister having died when he was a young age and his father always gone in another country for work. He even goes as far as sitting in his room alone at night and writing letters to his little sister about what's going on in his life as if she could still read them. But as sad as that act seems on the surface, it's actual just another quirk of his personality that most never notice unless they take the time to get to know him. Ryou loves everything to do with the occult and has a strange sense of humor when it comes to speaking of it. He'll even go as far as cheerfully speak of the ghouls and zombies in his duel deck to Jou, who's outright terrified of ghosts and creeped out by how happy Ryou is while speaking of them. He even has a secondary deck that's built around tarot readings instead of dueling. To him, things like speaking to the dead are completely normal.
Despite his initial shyness around others, it doesn't take long for Ryou to go from that to being openly cheerful around his friends. Between moving around and an evil spirit possessing him randomly, Ryou has never had many friends in his life so when he does acquire them, he'll protect them with his life. He'll willingly put himself in physical or spiritual danger with no second thoughts so long as it means his friends are safe, even if it could cost him his life. This shows him as a very caring individual who puts others before himself. He also becomes rather energetic when discussing types of games, from Duel Monsters to table top RPGs, as he loves playing with others no matter how often it leads to bad situations. He's also shown to have a dry sense of humor and wit, along with being sarcastic when someone states the obvious.
But most of the time, he ends up having to protect his friends from himself. Being friends with a boy who houses the spirit of the arch nemesis of the spirit who possesses you tends to do that. Though it seems Ryou has a weak mind as the Spirit of the Ring almost always subdues him, he doesn't go down without a fight if he knows his friend's lives are on the line. In most cases, it's a complete black out for him, as his spirit learned the hard way that waking him even the slightest bit to try and use him causes retaliation that usually wins out at critical moments. Though whenever he wakes up, even if just coming from having his soul banished to the Shadow Realm, he's still just as perky and optimistic. This either stems from his love of the occult, making him have little issue being surrounded by creatures made from pure darkness, or his ability to act like everything's okay no matter what and hide away his true feelings. Either way, even after Battle City, where he spent most of it critically injured and his soul banished, when they run to check on him he's happily raiding the fridge and complaining there's no food in the Shadow Realm. Completely ignoring the open, bleeding wound in his arm or the amount of strain his body's been through with it being pushed so hard by the spirit despite the injury.
You'd think with how dangerous the Millenium Ring tends to be, to both himself and to others, that Ryou would try to get rid of it. Unfortunately for everyone, the opposite is true and he'll never willingly part with it. Not out of fear of the spirit's wrath, as it's proven he's confident enough to stand up to him when needed, but more because it was a gift from his father. And evil entity aside, it's still a small feeling of someone being there with him so he's never completely alone. As much as he cares about his friends more than himself, he's also quite distanced from them and usually not included in a lot of the things they do, being the quiet one in the background left behind. When they all go to the museum together, he wants to help get the Pharaoh's memories back but he's denied because of the "evil" around him and the rejection of being left out hurts enough to make him cry, reminding him that he's different from them and doesn't fit in. Even with all of that, whenever his ring goes missing, he either asks someone where it is or gets it back himself if the Spirit doesn't do it first.
Inventory: School bag with various notes, paper and pencils, Duel Monsters deck x2, wallet with bits of money, school ID and library card
Abilities: For the most part, Ryou's a rather average boy. He doesn't have any special powers of his own, with his main strength being his will and determination and even those aren't strong enough at times. His body's strong enough to fight when it's needed, being able to swing down on a chain or climb a rope up the side of a building without too much effort, and he has a high pain tolerance but he excels more mentally and artistically than physically. He's creative when it comes to games and has a great imagination that comes in handy when playing table top RPGs and even spends some of his alone time carving and painting the little wooden figures for the games himself. He's also able to read small bits of ancient Egyptian, both due to the spirit who lived in him for years and his father being an archeologist.
Flaws: For almost half his life, Ryou's body housed a soul that was a combination of an ancient Egyptian thief king and the god of darkness himself. Due to that, his entire aura is tainted by the evil that came with them, even after they're gone. It doesn't help that even if his ring was evil, he kept it on him at all times knowing and disregarding the consequences it could bring.

Pain. That was the first thing that registered in the boy's mind as he let out a soft groan and slowly forced himself to sit up, a hand coming to press against his forehead. He tried to open his eyes, only to close them again against the light coming in from the window. No, this was nothing new to him. Waking up feeling disoriented and out of place, presumably in a strange location. The story of his life as it were in the past few years. His hand absentmindedly went to his chest out of habit, where once rested his precious Millennium Ring-
It's when his hand touched nothing but the fabric of his shirt that he snapped to attention. No, it was impossible. He was gone, defeated finally once and for all by the Pharaoh. The Items had been lost after that, laid to rest with Atem. His darkness was no longer there, no longer with him to cause him such pain and annoyances as this. So then how...
Ryou finally pushed his legs over the side of the bed to sit up and take in his surroundings, caution high but curiosity lingering as well. Just what was this place and how did he get there? If it wasn't the Items and didn't have anything to do with his former darkness, then how did he not remember anything about how he arrived? Had his other self somehow found a way to get to him even without the use of the Ring? He wouldn't put it passed him and honestly, it wouldn't be the first time it happened. But something told him that wasn't the case this time, that it was something else. Something that had nothing to do with every insane thing that had quickly become a normality in his life before.
He stood from the bed, walking over to the window in the room to try and get some idea of just what was going on. What he saw caused his eyes to widen a fraction, even reaching up to rub at them for a minute before pushing the window open and looking out. He definitely wasn't in Egypt any longer, or even Japan for that matter. For a few more minutes he simply stood there and took in the sight, trying to place exactly where he could be and coming up with absolutely nothing. He stayed calm, knowing that panicking in a situation like this wasn't going to do any good. Besides, it's not like it's the worst thing that's ever happened to him.
Once he realized he wasn't getting anywhere by simply standing there and staring at nothing, he turned his attentions back to examine the room he had woken up in and also check himself over. The Ring wasn't there, obviously, something he had expected once his mind was fully awake, and it never would be again. His pockets were the same as well, not a single thing missing or stolen. His wallet was still there with the small bit of money he had on him, along with his school ID and library card. His decks seemed to be in one piece as well, not even taken out of the carrying box he kept them safe in. Nothing stolen, that was a good thing at least.
His hand lingered over his deck for a few seconds longer than intended. A faint power there, a dark pull. That same feeling he could vaguely recall from his times spent in the Shadow Realm and the feel of the Ring resting against his skin when hidden under his shirt. He shook it off as simply his imagination, fully aware the cards no longer held any special power after the Items were lost. The Shadow Realm was no longer his concern, and neither were the dark powers that came with it. Pulling himself away from his own thoughts, Ryou decided that nothing would come of sitting around confused so he made his way to the door with the intention of doing some exploring outside.
